Fire Station 8 asserts civic pride of San Jose through iconic yet approachable design. Located on East Santa Clara Street, one of seven Grand Boulevards in San Jose. it responds to other civic and public buildings nearby, including the City Hall, with bold colors and massing. It celebrates fire fighters and invites the community to engage by showcasing the fire engine and the fire pole, highlighting the openness of the entry, and providing landscape elements that welcome passersby. The all-electric, solar powered building keeps fire fighters safe from cancer causing contaminates and provides a comfortable environment with light filled interiors.
