Peralta Oaks Sheriff’s Forensic Facilities and Public Health Labs

Oakland, CA | Police/Public Works/Labs

Alameda County retained Shah Kawasaki Architects to seismically retrofit and repurpose an existing office building into a state-of-the-art facility for the Sheriff Departments Criminalistics Lab, Coroner’s Bureau and Public Health Department Laboratories.  Laboratories, including Autopsy, Biology, Fire Arms, Molecular, and Computer Forensics are supported by adjoining office and administration suites. The Sheriff’s department maintains a strict chain of custody in the receipt of evidence and samples including those by other agencies and the public. Through its use of high efficiency HVAC systems, building reuse, and sustainable material selection, the project has achieved LEED Silver certification.
