Oakland Unified School District Living Schoolyards

SKA’s OUSD Living Schoolyards project targets two OUSD campuses: Manzanita Elementary School and MLK Elementary School. The design team collaborated with science teachers to design outdoor spaces supporting curriculum and encouraging enriching play. These living schoolyards will reduce the heat island effect that occurs when outdoor areas are mainly asphalt, create opportunities for outdoor learning, and provide natural beauty at schools.
